Restaurants

Suggesting good restaurants is always a risky business, restaurant staff and management change and personal tastes differ.
In most of the towns and beach resorts there are small bar/restaurants that serve good cheap food and drink. These places are ideal if you want a quick burger and chips etc.
 

The establishments I have included here are places we have been visiting for years - some are off the beaten holiday-maker track and you will find mainly locals and ex-pats there.

Go for the set menu or Menu-Del-Dia(menu of the day) for good value.

A good source of information is the English magazine Roqueta, they have a restaurant guide to which a team of tasters submit reports each month. There are always back issues available in the villa or you can buy it in supermarkets and shops.

Close to Trebaluger

  • La Rueda, San Lluis. Excellent food and very cheap.

  • Scandals, Es Castell. Very good food and prices.

  • El Picadero, Mahon-San Luis road 971 36 32 68. Long established fixed price eat as much as you like carvery. Not cheap but go hungry and it's very good value.

  • Biniarroca Hotel A La Carte and Gourmet 971 15 00 59 down lane off Es Castell-San Luis road follow signs to Cami Vell, 57 Sant Lluis - Expensive.

  • Old Airport - On the San Luis - Mahon road - there's also a go-kart track and snooker/pool tables.

  • Boomerang - Es Castell, on the road to Cala Fons. Varied menu and very good value. 971 35 46 15

  • La Venta (Pacos) - San Lluis - very good restaurant

  • Bar Espaņa  - Es Castell - Take second turning into Es Castell and the restaurant is on the left. Excellent food and very good price.

  • Via Pau - San Lluis - very good pizzeria and italian - very reasonably priced. Turn left out of Trebaluger, it is in front of you as you get to the 'BP' junction. Note:San Lluis high street is tucked away, turn left at the BP garage - several bars are located here.

  • D.P bar - Cala Torret Binibeca. Extremely good food and value. Wonderful sea views.

  • Pedros - Cala Torret Binibeca (Above DP bar). Extremely good food and value. Wonderful sea views.

  • El Faro - Cala Torret Binibeca - Various dishes and take-aways.

  • Bar Roma - Mahon Harbour - Just head for the biggest yachts in the harbour and bar Roma is opposite. Excellent food and great to watch people go by.

  •  Cala Fons - park in the square in Es Castell and walk to the pretty little Cala Fons harbour. There are restaurants all round the harbour - try Dinkums or Dumbos. Walk up the hill and keep going straight and there is a very good chinese restaurant.

San Clemente
Head for the main airport - go straight across the airport turning roundabout and you come to the village of San Clemente - only 15 mins drive from Trebaluger.

  • The Casino bar - despite the name it's not a casino. Very good well priced food. If you want authentic then eat in the bar with the locals - can get a bit smokey though. They also have a very nice restaurant that has a slightly more extensive menu. The main thing about this bar/restaurant is on Tuesday nights they have the famous jazz club. It is not strictly jazz and visiting musicians(some quite famous)sit in with the resident band.

  • Coach and Horses - English country pub, they serve a very good Sunday Roast. You must book, try to get a table in the small garden. 971 15 33 34

  • Es Moli Foc - Authentic French Cuisine, I must be honest and say this is not my cup of tea but it gets very good reviews. Just off a side turning in San Clemente.

  • Ca'n Bernat, On the road between San Clemente and Calan Porter - Good Steak House and barbecue.

  • Nelsons, turn onto Son Vitamin urbanisation (almost opposite Ca'n Bernat). Follow signs to Nelsons. Restaurant with Nelson and nautical theme. 971 37 74 85

  • El Sereno, one of the oldest restaurants on the island, all-inclusive price farmhouse. Excellent food - check for opening times.

Calan Porter


Continue on road from San Clemente and you reach the very English resort of Calan Porter. Lots of bars and restaurants, try the Village Pub for excellent English breakfast and very reasonable meals throughout the day. Also visit the Caves Xoroi, during the day it has splendid sea views and at night it turns into a lively nightclub.

  • Nuevo Milenio - On the right as you go into Calan Porter. Very good Chinese restaurant - Take-away meals available. 971 37 75 56

Alayor

A slightly longer drive but worth it!.

  • Cobblers - In the centre of Alayor, excellent food in pleasant surroundings, slightly more expensive but good for that special occasion 971 37 14 00

North

  • San Jose - Farmhouse restaurant - On the Fornells road from Mahon. 971 35 17 59. Good varied menu and Sunday lunch.

  • Son Parc Golf Club - You dont have to play golf to enjoy the bar/restaurant. They do good snacks as well. Good place to eat if you go to Son Parc beach.
