Travel
Menorca is in the Mediterranean sea and is part of the Spanish
Balearic Islands.
The currency is the Euro
Electricity is 220v - 240v (same as UK) but they have European sockets
(We have plenty of adaptors in the villa.)
There are plenty of public telephones in the towns, but none in the
rural areas. UK mobiles with international roaming work here, but is an
expensive way to contact the UK.
Flying
In the summer months (April - October) there are numerous flights direct
from the UK and it takes approx 2 hours.
Try these companies:
In the winter months Monarch
airlines fly a scheduled service from Luton airport, or fly Easyjet
during July, August and September.
We can arrange all flights for you or you can do it yourself, please
remember the change over day is Monday.
Car Hire
It is recommended that you hire a car on the island. There are many car
hire companies and they all deliver to the airport for your arrival. The
car hire reps are normally waiting near the airport exit. You must
produce a driving licence and passport and fill in a hire form, they
then take your credit card details and you are away. Cars range from
small Renaults/Fiats etc to 'people carriers' they can have roof racks
and child seats, but you must ask before arriving.
Usually you just leave the car with the keys in at the airport when
you return.
Again, we can arrange hire or we can give you contact details. We
tend to hire all our cars from the same company and get a discount -
which we will pass on.
Driving
Trebaluger is only 20 minutes from the airport, we will give you
directions before you go. Please remember to wear your seatbelts (its
the law). Always carry your driving licence and hire contract details
with you at all times. If you get trouble with the car, phone the hire
company immediately. There are speed restrictions on the Island (mobile
speed cameras are in operation). Mahon has very narrow streets with lots
of one ways and parking restrictions. The best places to park are the
underground car park near the junction of the airport road and the
square, or down by the harbour. Please also remember not to drink and
drive.
A good tip is if you get lost try heading for the airport
(it is very well signposted) you will then get your bearings.
